In October of 2022 his owner reached out to us about taking 2 other horses, Pongo and Pinta. Both were underweight, and needing vet and farrier care. We tried to get them to release Apple Jack to us as well as he was distraught his friends were leaving but they were not ready to part with him. We followed up and let them know that if they ever changed their mind, he would have a home with us.
Fast forward 6 months later and we got the call on a Sunday and headed there the next day! He was a CHONKY boy and was having a laminatic episode. He has been vetted though SGR, is up to date on all vaccines, and farrier care. He does need a dry lot/ not a lot of access to grass as he has laminitis that will flare up if not managed well. We have had his hooves xrayed and he has no rotation of his coffin bones. He is on ThyroL and currently needs to loose about another 10 lbs, but is being a great sport about it!
All horses at SGR have to have an approved adoption contract. Contracts also state that if for any reason the adopter can no longer keep the horse, SGR must be notified before a horse is placed elsewhere.

Lainey is a beautiful palomino. She came to SGR in August of 2023. We saw her posted on facebook for a very low price which put her at a very high risk of being scooped up by a kill buyer or entering the slaughter pipline. We reached out to her owner and they agreed to let her come to SGR. They had accuired her just a few months before from an older man who had her out in his pasture for years. Due to never seeing a vet or farrier all those years, Lainey was having a lot of issues with her feet. They had a farrier trim her a few times but didn't want to invest a lot of finances. Our vet came out and accessed her, did xrays and floated her teeth which were some of the worst we have seen. Our farrier has worked wonders on correcting her hoof angles and help her be more comfortable.
Lainey has a long road to go to be completely sound but she is very happy and healthy on the road to recovery. She is being adopted as a *Companion Only* horse meaning we will not adopt her to a home that wants to ride her. She is strictly to make your pasture look pretty and be a friend to your animals. She is a gorgeous bigger boned quarter horse type. We personally think she would be great for a ground therapy program as she loves people and will stand for days if she's getting attention.
