Saving Grace is funded solely on donations from our generous supporters. Those who choose to join our sponsorship program help us provide the essential care for our herd. From refeeding emaciated horses, like Momma Charisse, to the complex vet and farrier needs of our horses, costs can really add up. Today, with the cost of hay and grain alone, we are spending upwards of $1,300 each month. Not including vet, farrier and other necessary costs.
Chief is an older gentleman who we're sure has stories to tell. He is one of the oldest residents of Saving Grace and will be with us until he tells us his time is up. What we can gather from him is in his previous life, he was a ranch horse and had a herd he cared very dearly about. He is a protector and takes his job seriously when it comes to his herd here. He loves the babies that comes though SGR and takes it upon himself to teach them how to be good citizens within a herd and to humans. He has very much earned his retirement in life and we are grateful to have him in our program.
Momma Charisse is a very timid old lady who's personality is a lot like a cat. She enjoys her alone time but wants your attention when it's on her terms.
She came to us in November 2022 as a body score of 2 with her colt by her side. She had skin cancer when she arrived and she underwent 3 rounds of chemo once her body was healthy enough to do so. Since being with SGR she has flourished and now maintains a healthy weight and is a happy girl!
Fly is a gorgeous solid appaloosa who found his way to SGR with his buddy Radish. Their owners love them dearly but had some medical issues come up and they wanted to make sure the boys were taken care of. Fly's past is filled with a racing career, winning his futurity race when he was younger! He has an old injury that through time has caught up with him and has caused arthritis. Because of this he is not ridable and will live out his time as a sanctuary horse with us.
Radish is a mini horse but don't tell him that. He has a big personality and steals hearts of everyone who meets him! Radish came to SGR with his buddy Fly and has since become the mayor of SGR. Radish is well in his 30s and we've been told was quite the menace in his day! He now enjoys the sunshine, being pampered, and treats. He does a great job of greeting guests at the farm both big and little.
Chips was part of a neglect case in NC in July of 2024. She came to us on the thin side and with terrible anxiety. We had high hopes she would be able to be adopted once she was rehabbed but we have since learned she is very prone to choke. Not knowing her previous history on this, we can only assume it was from her lack of consistent feeding during the neglect and she tries to eat too quickly when she does get food.
Her anxiety she came with has melted away but her excitement around food is something she probably will never overcome. We work very diligently to oversee her feedings making sure her food is fully soaked and any hay given is in an extra slow feed bag. Because she is such a high risk we have decided to keep her as a sanctuary horse to maintain the routine we have created for her here.
Belle is an absolute beauty! Little Belle came to us in June of 2025. She is just a baby and we already were her 4th home that we know of. She was on the thin side and needed muscle. Her feet were so bad, we feared she had foundered but thankfully she just needed a good trim and correct angles! She has THRIVED since coming to SGR and is an absolute joy. She full of baby spunk but gentle when she needs to be. We hope as Belle grows, we will be able to be started under saddle and be a fun little girl!

By becoming a guardian you are helping us help horses in the most need. Guardianship allows us to have funds available when a horse needs us to step up and help. Like Chant, who was listed on Craiglsit for $300. She was at a high risk of being purchased by a kill buyer or flipper. We were able to immediately help her
By making a one time donation or becoming a monthly sponsor, you'll help us continue to care for our current rescues as well as help others in need. We are a volunteer run rescues so 100% of all donations made to Saving Grace go the horses care.
