Saving Grace is funded solely on donations from our generous supporters. Those who choose to join our sponsorship program help us provide the essential care our herd. From refeeding emaciated horses, like Momma Charisse, to the complex vet and farrier needs of our horses, costs can really add up. Today, with the cost of hay and grain alone, we are spending upwards of $1,200 each month.
Chief is an older gentleman who we're sure has stories to tell. He is one of the oldest residents of Saving Grace and will be with us until he tells us his time is up. What we can gather from him is in his previous life, he was a ranch horse and had a herd he cared about. He is a protector and takes his job seriously when it comes to his herd. He loves the babies that comes though SGR and takes it upon himself to teach them how to be good citizens within a herd and to humans. He has very much earned his retirement in life and we are grateful to have him in our program.
Nolan is a level headed 3 year old gelding. He is a farm favorite around here with his happy go lucky personality. He came into our program after his owner could no longer keep him. His mother is actually Momma Charisse! Nolan is destined for great things and will be going under saddle when his is ready!
Apple Jack is a mini horse but don't tell him that. He has a big personality and steals hearts of everyone who meets him! Apple Jack came to SGR overweight and with laminitis making it hard for him to walk. We have since gotten his weight in line and with proper farrier care, he's a new horse now!
Momma Charisse is a very timid old lady who's personality is a lot like a cat. She enjoys her alone time but wants your attention when it's on her terms.
She came to us in November 2022 as a body score of 2 with her colt by her side. She had skin cancer when she arrived and was treated with 3 rounds of chemo. Since being with SGR she has flourished and now maintains a healthy weight and is a happy girl!
Lainey Jane is an absolute beauty! She has a very thick, quarter horse build that just draws you into her. She has ligament issues with her hind legs we are working on correcting. We are seeing progress but with the years of neglect she endured before coming here, it will be a very long process. She has a personality that everyone loves and she truly feels your emotions when she's with you.
Shanghai is a beautiful welsh pony with the calmest personality. She adores children and loves attention. Shanghai came to us with signs of previous laminitis flare ups. We have been monitoring her closely and have since had her tested for PPID or cushings disease. She has to take a daily pill to help her body regulate its cortisol levels.
We love her sweet little personality and little shuffle gait she has when she's excited!
By becoming a guardian you are helping us help horses in the most need. Guardianship allows us to have funds available when a horse needs us to step up and help. Like Chant, who was listed on Craiglsit for $300. She was at a high risk of being purchased by a kill buyer or flipper. We were able to immediately help her
By making a one time donation or becoming a monthly sponsor, you'll help us continue to care for our current rescues as well as help others in need. We are a volunteer run rescues so 100% of all donations made to Saving Grace go the horses care.
